Vedic Meditation

Is SIMPLE

Vedic Meditation is a simple mental resting technique that comes from an ancient body of knowledge known as The Veda. The Veda was preserved over five thousand years ago in an area we now call India. The knowledge has been passed down orally from teacher to teacher. The Veda also gives us the knowledge of Yoga and Ayurveda (the science of health and longevity).

Is DIFFERENT

Vedic Meditation is different from other types of meditation as it is a self sufficient effortless approach. By mentally thinking an individual mantra, a meaningless sound, the mind is led to a state of transcendence. You do not need an app or someone to guide you, you do not have to focus or concentrate, you do not have to stop thinking, and you do not have to sit a particular way. It is meant to be a self sufficient, comfortable and enjoyable experience. Other types of meditation use a focus, concentration or contemplative approach which keeps the mind engaged in activity and at the sensory level. When you are focusing, concentrating or contemplating your senses are still engaged in whatever you are focusing on; the breath, an affirmation like love and kindness, a voice, etc. In Vedic Meditation, we go beyond the senses and beyond the level of thinking to a state of pure consciousness. You might be thinking you will not be able to do this because you cannot sit still and your mind is full of thoughts, but I thought this too. We all have a lot of thoughts running through our minds as that is the job of the mind. In Vedic Meditation, thoughts are a part of meditation and we welcome them to transcend them.

Is HEALING

When we go beyond the senses and beyond the thinking mind, our body is able to rest deeply and release built up stresses. The ‘fight or flight, freeze or please’ chemicals are naturally replaced with ‘stay and play’ bliss chemicals; dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. When the body relaxes and the chemicals build up over time; we rid the body of stress, the immune system gets a boost, and the body is able to balance and heal itself from all types of dis-ease.

The physiological benefits are: - Increased energy levels - improved sleep - slowing of the aging process - relief from stress-related health disorders; depression, anxiety, digestive, reproductive and immune conditions - increased sense of presence and calmness - increased adaptability and creativity - faster recovery from illness and injury - general sense of fulfillment and happiness - increased levels of grace and joy

Is the ultimate TRUTH

During meditation, we get to know ourselves as something other than our thoughts and feelings. Thoughts and feelings are constantly changing, they pass like waves in the ocean. When we experience the truth of what we are, we experience a state of calmness like the depth of the ocean. When we know the truth of what we are, we are no longer controlled by what other people do or think, or by the circumstances happening around us. This is freedom.

Is SELF SUFFICIENT

Once you learn the technique, you will be able to meditate on your own at any time and anywhere by effortlessly thinking your mantra. The recommended amount of time is 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon. After the four day course, which is an hour a day, you will have developed a self sufficient meditation practice that you will have the rest of your life. The time to enjoy life is now. Meditation will help!
